Steve Jarvis is the Liberal Democrat County Councillor for the Royston West and Rural division. This covers the area from Great Ashby to the western parts of Royston, including all the villages in between.

Steve is the leader of the Liberal Democrat group on Herts County Council and the Shadow Cabinet member for Children, Young People and Families. He is member of the County Council's Children, Young People & Families and Resources & Performance Cabinet Panels.

Like all County Councillors, Steve has a "locality budget" of £10,000 to spend on community improvement schemes and a highways budget of £90,000 to spend on improvements and repairs to roads and pavements, including things such as speed indicator signs and 20mph speed limits.

He lives in Graveley with his wife, Sal. For more information about Steve you can visit www.stevejarvis.org.uk.

In his own words:

"Conservative-run Herts County Council is bad at maintaining our roads and pavements, has reduced bus services and does a poor job of ensuring that there are enough school places where they are needed. Since I have been a County Councillor I have made some progress on getting local roads and pavements improved, with more than 20 across Royston West and Rural resurfaced or repaired. I have also had 10 "smiley face" speed indicator signs installed and 20mph speed limits introduced in Ashwell, Great Ashby and Wallington.

But there is still more to be done. I want to see a County Council that does better road maintenance better, improves our environment and is more responsive to the needs of people in Hertfordshire."
